1981 Gibson Explorer II CMT

Gibson released the Explorer II CMT in 1981. Unlike the walnut/maple body of Explorer II, the Explorer II CMT has a curly maple top, with mahogany body.

The CMT series was available between 1981-84.

The CMT series shipped with the choice of 2 bridges, the TP-6 (like the Explorer II) or the Kahler Trem.

Gibson Explorer II CMT Specs :

Top : Bound Curly Maple Top, Bound Mahogany body

Neck : 3 piece flame Maple

Fretboard : Ebony, 22 frets with pearl dot inlay

Pickups : 2 exposed coil humbucker pickups ( dirty fingers )

Hardware : Gold

Bridge : TP-6 or Kahler Tremelo

Finish : Cherry Sunburst, Natural, Tobacco Sunburst, Red

Gibson also made a model known as Explorer I from 1980. It has many of the same specs as the 76 reissue rather then the Explorer II. You can check it out on this post.
